birthing socks

I'm going to the Olympics. The 2006 Knitting Olympics. The Yarn Harlot (from Canada) has come up with the totally awesome plan, and you can read all about it here.

Sounds fun, huh? So I'm challenging myself to knit socks. A whole pair. And without the help of wine or booze of any kind. Socks are somewhat a rite of passage in the knitting realm, are they not? So I'm taking the plunge feet first, proverbially speaking. Whatever that means...

Then when I go to the birth center to birth a baby (hopefully after the Olympics have concluded) I will wear my new socks that I will have just won a gold medal for. And then I will attempt to win another gold medal for birthing a baby without the assistance of modern medicine.

I'm feeling all patriotic and part of something big, and that's a good feeling. Or maybe it's the high that I'm experiencing knowing that I need to go buy some really great sock yarn from the yarn store. There's no telling.

there are a ton of people listed on that sidebar.

I made a really big deal out of what socks I would be wearing as well, but I think I just ended up wearing white ankle socks. My reward socks were bright red danish wool though.

I hadn't thought about my feet as the first thing the new babe will see. How exciting!

But the exquisite yarn might not be for this project. Current funds don't allow. So I'm thinking of some knitpicks yarn, and I'll post it in a jif. It's actually pretty cool.

I love the Olympics, too. :)
